Homemade Chai Tea

Being British I’m obligated to share with you one of my favorite teas – Chai tea. I’ve been buying it from Starbucks and in boxes, then I finally said “just learn how to make it yourself” and I did. And of course it was easy as chai.

Ingredients:
1/2 TBS. ground ginger or a 2 inch piece of fresh ginger
2 cinnamon sticks
1 tsp. black peppercorns
10 whole cloves
6 cardamon pods
6 cups of water (room temperature or cold)
6 bags of black tea
1 cup half & half or milk
1/4 cup brown sugar

Directions:
Put first 5 ingredients in medium saucepan. With the back of a large spoon slightly crush spices. Add 6 cups water and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce to medium heat, partially cover pan, and simmer for 10 minutes. Remove from heat. Add tea bags and steep for 5 minutes. Discard tea bags. Add milk and sugar. Bring tea to simmer over high heat, whisking until sugar dissolves. Pour into kettle and serve hot or if you’re like me pour over ice with whipped cream. Enjoy! 🙂
